J. Alexander Maxwell

Climate Programs Senior Manager

Alex is a Senior Manager of Climate Programs at Second Nature. He manages the University Climate Change Coalition (UC3), in addition to the organization’s resilience and cross-sector climate initiatives.

An engineer and urbanist by training, his work has broadly focused on sustainable development and environmental design, with experience working on projects related to regional emissions modeling, local climate action planning, campus food waste, and walkable urban design. Prior to joining the team at Second Nature, he was an Assistant Professor of Environmental Engineering at Gonzaga University, a Fulbright Scholar with the Urban Design Studies Unit in Glasgow, Scotland, and a member of the Climate Change Planning Unit at the United Nations Human Settlements Programme in Nairobi, Kenya.

When he is not working on advancing climate action within higher education, he enjoys runs along the Charles River, backpacking with his wife, and seeking out the world’s best cup of coffee.
