Join the Intersectional Climate Action Leaders Working Group

Dear Members of the BIPOC Community,

On February 5th-7th 2023, Second Nature and the Intentional Endowments Network will co-host our annual Higher Education Climate Leadership Summit, in person at the University of Miami in Miami, Florida.  The 2023 Climate Leadership Summit will bring together a diverse array of signatories of the Climate Leadership Network among other notable partners and individuals.

You Are Invited
In conjunction with Second Nature, I am inviting campus and community members of the BIPOC community to join the Intersectional Climate Action Leaders Working Group to plan a Summit session for the 2023 Climate Leadership Summit.

The Goal
In 2023, we strive to build and deepen relationships in the southeast and midwest regions. As a Climate Programs Manager for the southeast region with explicit focus on authentic engagement with HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) and MSIs (Minority Serving Institutions), I am championing the creation of a Summit session for, and led by, leaders of color and members of the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and Persons of Color) community.

The development of the Working Group, and the work of co-developing a Summit session aims to bring this community together to create and build long-lasting and meaningful relationships during the Summit and beyond.

Who Should Join
This Working Group is for identified leaders of color or BIPOC community within the Climate Leadership Network, Second Nature partners and community peers.  You do not necessarily need to have an affiliated institutional title to join this Working Group, or be a designated implementation liaison (IL) for your institution.

We welcome a diversity of experience in this effort, to prioritize defining the needs of HBCUs/HSIs/MSIs/ and Tribal Colleges and the communities they serve.

How to Join
Please sign-up and share this Working Group Interest Form with identified BIPOC leaders on your campus. You are a valued contact in this outreach process as an institutional affiliated leader at a designated minority-serving institution that is either currently or has previously engaged with the Climate Leadership Network. Your institutional knowledge and unique understanding of your demographic base is a valued contribution to this committee.

This intake form will be crucial in helping us shape our work and ensure that we see this process through effectively and equitably. The Working Group will work to build off and grow historic work, including this past initiative and resource to highlight the unique journeys of HBCUs and MSIs in the field of sustainability.

Our meeting schedule is as follows: Biweekly Tuesdays 3-4pm EST starting November 1st.

Please submit your interest and let me know if you have any questions or are interested in joining the Working Group.

We thank you for your leadership.
