UC3 Events

Every UC3 institution will hold a climate change forum in the Spring or Summer of 2018 to bring together community and business leaders, elected officials and other local stakeholders. Meetings will be tailored to meet local and regional objectives shared across sectors and will aim to accelerate the implementation of research-driven climate policies and climate solutions. This page will be updated with forum and other event details as they are announced.

February 4-6, 2018: The UC3 coalition was unveiled at the 2018 Higher Education Climate Leadership Summit, presented by Second Nature. The three-day summit in Tempe, Arizona, is the largest national gathering of higher education presidents, chancellors, trustees, and other senior leaders committed to accelerating climate solutions.

March 26, 2018: The State University of New York at Stony Brook’s Advanced Energy Research and Technology Center (AERTC) organized the Advanced Energy Conference (AEC) 2018 bringing together influential leaders, key researchers, and policymakers from every part of the energy sector. The conference celebrated the energy industry’s achievements in new areas of power generation, shared promising new areas of research, and connected the leaders who are exploring those technologies and shaping global energy policies.

April 4, 2018: The University of California and the California Institute of Technology held the “California Collaborative for Climate Change Solutions” (C4S)  forum to ignite dialogue on questions related to core elements of effective models of collaboration and among academia, private industry, and government, with special focus on accelerating and scaling climate solutions in the 21st century. Key ideas related to best business practices, models of transparency, criteria for demonstration projects, and stakeholder-specific needs were examined. Expert panelists focused on opportunities for climate solutions from the perspective of academics, government, investors and private industry.

May 18, 2018: Ohio State University and the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission came together to host a dialog on “Building Resilient Communities in a Changing Climate.” Experts from Ohio State, MORPC, and central Ohio communities presented the challenges facing local infrastructure and the public health resulting from localized climate change impacts, what actions are currently being taken to combat these problems, and how Ohio State, MORPC, and local communities can work together to best prevent, mitigate, and adapt to the effects of our changing environment.

May 24-25, 2018: La Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México cross-sector forum.

June 18, 2019: The Center for Strategic & International Studies Energy & National Security Program is pleased to host The Hon. Janet Napolitano (President, University of California), The Hon. Dr. Kristina M. Johnson (Chancellor, The State University of New York), and Dr. Timothy Carter (President, Second Nature) for a discussion on the recent launch of the University Climate Change Coalition (UC3), the role of research universities in the development of climate action plans, and their own imperatives for a more sustainable energy system. June 19, 2018:  The University of Toronto’s Carbon Markets and Climate Finance: Alternative Financing Paths to a Low-Carbon Future forum.

July 18, 2018: The University of British Columbia “Climate Leadership Roundtable.”

July 26, 2018: University of Colorado, Boulder’s cross-sector forum.

August 21, 2018: Tecnologico de Monterrey‘s cross-sector forum.

August 28, 2018: Washington University in St. Louis‘s cross-sector forum.

September 12-14, 2018: Many UC3 coalition members will join the Global Climate Action Summit from September 12 to 14, 2018 in San Francisco, California. The summit will showcase the surge of climate action around the world in 2017-18. It will be co-chaired by California Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr., Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Patricia Espinosa, United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Cities and Climate Change Michael Bloomberg, and Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra.

Fall 2018: A coalition-wide report, to be released in late 2018, will synthesize the best practices, policies, and recommendations from all UC3 forums into a framework for continued progress on climate change goals across the nation and the world.
