In addition to the peer-to-peer groups and networks, UC3 members have also developed several initiatives designed to strengthen and deepen the work of the Coalition. These initiatives evolve to meet the needs of members universities and the Coalition as a whole, and range from efforts to support student climate leadership, to research-to-policy platforms, to addressing grand climate challenges through multi-university, collaborative projects.
At a pivotal point in UC3’s evolution as a collaborative group of the world’s leading research universities, Dr. Santa Ono – President & Vice Chancellor of the University of British Columbia and UC3 Leadership Lead – is leading the formation of the UC3 Fellows Pilot Program. Piloted in 2021, this program will provide a pathway for UC3 members to award fellowships to postdocs, faculty, and/or staff committed to working together as a cohort on one or more collaborative Fellows projects that advance the goals and strategies of the 2020-2025 UC3 Strategic Plan.
The University Climate Change Coalition launched the Research for Policy Platform at their inaugural Summit on July 23rd, 2019 in Vancouver, British Columbia. The Platform is a joint research and development platform that will establish a unified set of principles and policies in order to directly support Higher Education Leaders in local, national, and international 1.5 degree-aligned climate policy engagement.
