Second Nature owes much of its success to its committed Board of Directors. In the last year, we have been fortunate to welcome some new members to our Board. All the board members bring different experience and skills to Second Nature.
In May 2015, Second Nature welcomed Laurie Fowler to the board. Laurie is an environmental attorney, and the Associate Dean for Administrative and Strategic Affairs at the University of Georgia’s Odum School of Ecology. She is also the director for policy of the River Basin Center.
Starting in May 2015 as well, Portland State University President Wim Wiewel started serving in an ex officio role on the board, as the Chair of the Climate Leadership Network Steering Committee. This May, 2016, he transitioned to being a regular Board member. As the position of Chair of the Climate Leadership Network Steering Committee transitions to California State University, Northridge President Dianne Harrison this July, she will become the ex officio representative of the Steering Committee on the Second Nature Board.
This month, we welcomed two more board members. Jewell Harper, also an environmental lawyer, served as Deputy Assistant Regional Administrator with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and is now a visiting professor at Spelman College. Nancy Sutley led the White House Council on Environmental Quality from 2009 – 2014 and is now the Chief Sustainability and Economic Development Officer at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.
We are grateful to all our Board of Directors for their guidance and continuing support of Second Nature. We look forward to the leadership from our new board members in the years ahead.
