Carly Simmons is the Design and Communications intern at Second Nature. She joined the Second Nature team in November of 2016. She is a native to Upstate New York where she obtained a B.A. in Architectural Studies from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY.

Her previous design experience and travel opportunities motivate her to design using community-based research that empowers communities. Other educational travel ventures include Germany and Poland upon acceptance to participate in a Holocaust Memorial trip in May 2016. Carly is committed to service learning and has been involved with multiple urban rehabilitation projects and served as a flood relief volunteer in South Carolina in March of 2016.

Her combined interests in design and service have afforded her a number of unique career opportunities that include internships with furniture and interior designers, research and teaching assistantships, and a neighborhood resource center. She looks forward to intersecting her personal interests in social impact design with the goals of Second Nature to build strong networks that promote sustainability across the country.
