4th Annual AMS Climate Studies Course Implementation Workshop for MSI Faculty
Application Deadline: March 13, 2015
Recognizing the importance of building a broad network of diverse climate leaders, Second Nature and the American Meteorological Society (AMS) partnered to introduce the AMS Climate Studies course at 100 minority-serving institutions (MSIs) over a five-year period. Now in the fourth year of partnership, AMS is enrolling 25 MSI faculty members to attend the next expenses-paid Course Implementation Workshop, taking place in Washington, DC from May 17-22, 2015. This unique training opportunity offers extensive professional development and support while also fulfilling the curriculum requirements of ACUPCC institution’s Climate Action Plans. Read more »

U.S. Climate Resilience Toolkit
Recently launched in response to the President’s Climate Action Plan and Executive Order, this toolkit provides scientific tools, information, and expertise to help manage climate-related risks and opportunities, and improve resilience to extreme events. It is designed to serve interested citizens, communities, businesses, resource managers, planners, and policy leaders at all levels of government.
USGBC’s Center for Green Schools: Greenschools' Best of 2014
The Best of Green Schools list celebrates schools, districts, individuals and communities making strides towards creating healthy, safe and sustainable learning places for all. Winners will be featured on the Center’s website and social media, and receive a certificate. Submissions are due by 11:59 p.m. ET on Saturday, November 22, 2014.

Preparing for the Storms to Come

[...] The warning would go off announcing the advent of a severe storm or flash flood warning, and I would be glued to the TV hoping that the announcement would mean that something cool was about to happen.

One such occasion interrupted a family barbecue on the last day of May. The forecast that morning had said that there was a high likelihood that there would be severe thunderstorms in the late afternoon, and you could definitely feel it stepping outside. The air was hot and humid, sitting heavily as the fog rolled in that early evening, and draining the motivation out of everything it touched. Around 4PM the severe weather warning started across the TV screen accompanied by a warning I had never heard before: Tornado Warning for Eastern New York. Read more »
